Rudra Yogpeeth
Pregnancy is a beautiful phase but also a sensitive time where mothers have to be extremely cautious of their health as well as their baby’s well-being. But do you know that only 1 out of 10 pregnant women choose to do some sort of physical movement, such as exercise or yoga, during and after the pregnancy? The lack of physical flexibility often affects a child’s growth and development.
Recently, at our Rudra Yogpeeth in Rishikesh, we conducted a survey where we educated pregnant women and mothers about the importance of yoga in the Prenatal and Postnatal phases of pregnancy and also asked about their concerns about not including yoga in their daily pregnancy routine.
This helped us understand that there is a lack of trained professionals who can provide them with prenatal and postnatal yoga training.
So, we decided to focus on bridging this gap by introducing our specialized Pre & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training Course at Rudra Yogpeeth. This program is designed to empower teachers & instructors with the expertise needed to guide pregnant women and new mothers through an enriching yoga practice that is safe & promising.
Who is this for: This course welcomes both pregnant women who want to continue their yoga practice safely through pregnancy, and anyone who wants to learn how to teach prenatal yoga to expectant mothers. If you are pregnant, you are warmly invited to join for your own practice now — and you can go on to teach prenatal yoga later as well.

Understanding The Basics
The Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training (YTTC) is is a gentle form of yoga designed to support women throughout pregnancy. It combines pregnancy-safe yoga poses, breathing exercises, gentle stretching, and meditation to promote physical comfort, relaxation, and emotional well-being.
Benefits of Prenatal Yoga During Pregnancy
Practising prenatal yoga may help relieve common pregnancy discomforts, such as back pain and muscle tension, while improving flexibility, posture, and body awareness. Deep breathing and meditation can help reduce stress, encourage relaxation, and prepare expectant mothers mentally for childbirth. Pregnancy yoga also supports mindful movement and helps women connect with their changing bodies and growing babies. Prenatal yoga can be suitable during different stages of pregnancy when exercises are adapted to individual needs. Always consult your healthcare professional before starting yoga during pregnancy, and practise under the guidance of a qualified prenatal yoga instructor.

Who Is This Course For
Pregnancy and the months that follow are among the biggest changes a woman goes through, and a teacher who truly understands that period can make an enormous difference. This 85-hour prenatal and postnatal training at Rudra Yogpeeth is open to people arriving from very different backgrounds.
You do not need years of teaching behind you or a clinical qualification. What matters is a genuine wish to support women safely and knowledgeably through pregnancy, birth and recovery. If you are joining to teach, we recommend you have already completed a 200-hour teacher training; if you are joining for your own practice and understanding, a year or two of regular yoga will help you get far more from the week.
Why Rudra Yogpeeth
Choosing where to train in prenatal yoga matters more than it does for a general course — you will be responsible for pregnant and postnatal women, and the margin for a badly taught modification is small. Here is what students weigh up when they pick Rudra Yogpeeth for their prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training in Rishikesh.
Train at a Yoga Alliance registered school in Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga. Prenatal batches run the 24th to the 30th of every month, with 15–20 students.
Most prenatal courses stop at how to modify postures for a growing belly. This prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training in Rishikesh works through the whole arc — preconception, each of the three trimesters, labour support, postnatal recovery and couple yoga — one stage per day of asana practice. You leave able to teach a woman at any point in that journey, not only the second trimester.
Garbha Sanskar — the traditional Indian practice of nurturing a baby through the mother’s state of mind during pregnancy — has its own 9:45 to 11:00 slot every morning, alongside yogic philosophy. Very few prenatal trainings anywhere teach it properly, and it is the part students most often say changed how they hold a prenatal class.
Teaching pregnant and postnatal women safely is an anatomy problem before it is a yoga problem. Anatomy theory runs daily from 4:00 to 5:00 — the pelvic floor, the abdominal wall and diastasis recti, the changing centre of gravity, relaxin and joint laxity, and the contraindications that matter in each trimester. You learn why a modification exists before you are asked to teach it.
No single teacher covers everything at Rudra Yogpeeth. Prenatal asana, pranayama, philosophy and anatomy are each taught by someone who teaches that subject daily, several with RYT-500 certification and more than ten years in the room. The depth shows in the questions they can answer, not just the ones they planned for.
Batches are kept to roughly 15–20 students. With prenatal work that is not a comfort but a requirement — hands-on adjustment, props and the pace of a class all change when you are working with pregnancy, and a teacher cannot watch that properly across a crowded room.
The 85-hour prenatal yoga teacher training is ₹17,999 in a shared room or ₹21,999 private. That covers tuition, your stay, three sattvic vegetarian meals a day, study materials and your completion certificate. Nothing is added later, and the fee is the same for every nationality.
The course runs the 24th to the 30th of every month in Upper Tapovan, Rishikesh — the yoga capital of the world, on the banks of the Ganga at the foot of the Himalayas. Students join the Ganga Aarti, temple visits and kirtan evenings as part of the training, which is a large part of why a residential week here does what months of weekend study at home do not.
By the end of the week you can plan and lead a prenatal class for any trimester, adapt it for a postnatal body, and explain to a student exactly why you are asking her to do something. That understanding — not the certificate — is what makes a woman trust you with her pregnancy.

Your Credential

RPYT stands for Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher — the specialist credential issued by Yoga Alliance USA to teachers who have completed an 85-hour prenatal yoga teacher training and met its standards. It is the most widely recognised prenatal yoga qualification in the world, and it is what tells a studio, a clinic or an expectant mother that you were trained to work with pregnancy specifically.
Rudra Yogpeeth is a Yoga Alliance Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS), so the hours, curriculum and faculty on this 85-hour prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training in Rishikesh count towards that credential.
What you need before applying
How to register, step by step
The 30 teaching hours are the part most people underestimate, so it is worth starting them as soon as you are home. They can come from studio classes, private clients or community sessions, as long as you document them.
Your Teaching Journey Begins
Completing the prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training in Rishikesh opens real work in a field that is growing. Maternal wellness is not a passing trend — the demand for qualified, genuinely caring prenatal yoga teachers is steady and rising, and the supply is not. Here is what becomes available to you.
An RPYT credential travels — it lets you teach pregnancy-safe classes anywhere in the world. Yoga studios, wellness centres, maternity spaces and leisure clubs all want qualified prenatal teachers, and most struggle to find them, because very few teachers hold the specialisation.
A great many expectant mothers would rather have a teacher to themselves — for the attention, for the privacy, and because a session can be shaped around how she feels that week. Private prenatal yoga is among the better-paid work in teaching, and the most rewarding; you follow one woman through her whole pregnancy.
Healthcare is steadily bringing yoga into prenatal care, and a clinic that will not let a general yoga teacher near its patients will talk to an RPYT. This is the door the specialisation opens that a 200-hour certificate on its own does not.
You can write and sell your own prenatal course — trimester-by-trimester programmes, breathing for labour, a postnatal return-to-practice series. It reaches women on bed rest, in small towns, or anywhere without a prenatal class nearby, and it keeps earning once it is built.
Breathing for labour, fertility yoga, postnatal recovery, managing stress in pregnancy — these are high-value weekend workshops and retreats that people actively search for, and you are now credentialed to run them.
Most students don't do everything at once. Some start part-time, some go full-time. The course gives you a clear starting point — you build the rest step by step.

Questions You May Have
No. You do not need teaching experience or a clinical background to join the 85-hour prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher training at Rudra Yogpeeth. What matters is a sincere wish to support women safely through pregnancy. If you intend to register as an RPYT with Yoga Alliance afterwards you will need a 200-hour certificate as well; if you are joining for your own understanding, one to two years of regular practice will help you get far more from the week.
This is a teacher training rather than a pregnancy class, and the schedule is a full residential day. Expectant mothers are welcome to join for their own practice and are given modified sequences throughout, but please tell us your trimester when you enquire and bring written clearance from your doctor. If you are pregnant and want a practice rather than a qualification, a private prenatal session suits you better.
Rudra Yogpeeth is a Yoga Alliance Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS), so the hours, curriculum and faculty on this course count towards the RPYT credential. To register as an RPYT you also need a 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate from a registered school and 30 documented hours of prenatal teaching, which you build up after the course.
Yes. The fee is all-inclusive — ₹17,999 in a shared room or ₹21,999 private. That covers tuition, your stay for the full seven days, three sattvic vegetarian meals daily, study materials and your completion certificate. The fee is the same for every nationality, and nothing is added later.
Yes. Pranayama has its own hour every morning from 7:00 to 8:00, and the techniques are taught for pregnancy specifically — which breath practices are safe in each trimester, which to avoid, and the breathing patterns used through the stages of labour. Breath is usually the single most useful thing a prenatal teacher can give a woman approaching birth.
Yes. The course finishes with supervised teaching practice, so you leave having planned and led a prenatal class rather than only watched one. Your Rudra Yogpeeth certificate lets you teach in studios, wellness centres and private sessions, and registering as an RPYT with Yoga Alliance afterwards opens maternity clinics and hospital settings that general yoga teachers are rarely offered.
Anatomy theory runs daily from 4:00 to 5:00 and is taught for pregnancy throughout — the pelvic floor, the abdominal wall and diastasis recti, the shifting centre of gravity, relaxin and joint laxity, and the contraindications that apply in each trimester. You learn why a modification exists before you are asked to teach it.
Yes. Meditation has a dedicated hour each afternoon, and the training covers guided relaxation, yoga nidra adapted for pregnancy, and Garbha Sanskar — the traditional practice of nurturing a baby through the mother's state of mind. Learning to hold a calm room is a large part of prenatal teaching.
If your plans change we can move your booking to a future batch, provided you let us know at least 30 days before your start date; the transfer stays valid for one year. The full policy is set out in the Policies section further down this page, and we are always happy to talk it through before you book.
Yes. Teaching practice is built into the week rather than left to the last day. You observe, assist, cue and then lead, with feedback from the teacher each time. The asana slot also moves through a different stage daily — preconception, each trimester, postnatal and couple yoga — so you practise teaching each one.
Yes. On completing the seven days and your assessed teaching practice you receive a Rudra Yogpeeth 85-Hour Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training certificate. It is the document Yoga Alliance asks for when you apply for RPYT, alongside your 200-hour certificate and your 30 teaching hours.
Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun is the nearest, about an hour from the school by road. A taxi is the simplest option and we are glad to arrange one — just send your flight details when you book. Coming by train, Haridwar is the main station, around an hour away. The school is in Upper Tapovan, Laxman Jhula, a short walk from the Ganga.
Yes, and it is one of the core threads of the course. You learn which postures to avoid in each trimester and why, how to modify the ones that can be adapted, which props make a shape accessible as pregnancy progresses, and the warning signs that mean a student should stop. This is also what protects you as a teacher.
Sunday is lighter. Morning practice runs as usual, and the rest of the day is kept free for rest, self-study or a walk by the Ganga. Students often use it for the excursions — Ganga Aarti, temple visits or a quiet morning upriver.
Batches run every month from the 24th to the 30th, so there is no closed season. March to April and September to November are the most comfortable — warm days, cool evenings and clear Himalayan views. Winter is quieter and the classes are smaller; the monsoon, July through August, is green and dramatic but wetter, and some excursions depend on the weather.
Clarity Before You Book
All classes are mandatory. Only in the case of an emergency or illness can one take leave with a respected teacher's permission. Uninformed leaves won't be accepted and will affect the student's monthly performance. Please read the policies below carefully before enrolling — they are written to protect both students and the school, and to keep the training environment safe, focused, and fair for everyone on campus.
